SSD Upgrades
from £99

Want to speed up your laptop or desktop PC with the ultimate upgrade?

Now is the time to upgrade to a SSD (solid state drive) hard drive. SSD drives have no moving parts and have generally up to 20x faster access time than a standard (HDD) hard drive.

This also means a start up time of as little of 20 seconds rather than the minutes you are used to with a standard drive.

Differences between SSD Drives & mechanical hard drives

Access time

A SSD has access speeds of 35 to 100 micro-seconds, which is nearly 100 times faster. This faster access speed means programs can run more quickly, which is very significant, especially for programs that access large amounts of data often like your operating system. A typical HDD takes about 5,000 to 10,000 micro-seconds to access data.

Price

Price: higher than an HDD, which is why most computers with an SSD only have a few hundred gigabytes of storage. Desktop computers with an SSD may also have one or more HDDs for additional storage. HDD is cheaper than SSD, especially for drives over 1TB. If you require large amounts of storage then a hyrbid solution would be best for you.

Reliablility

The SSD has no moving parts. It uses flash memory (like a USB memory stick) to store data, which provides better performance and reliability over an HDD. The HDD has moving parts and magnetic platters, meaning the more use they get, the faster they wear down and fail.

Capacity

Although there are large SSDs, anything over 1TB SSD is usually outside of most people's price range. Several terabyte hard disk drives are available for very reasonable prices

Power

The SSD uses less power than a standard HDD, which means a lower energy bill over time and for laptops, an increase in battery life. With all of the parts required to spin the platters, the HDD uses more power than an SSD.
SSD Upgrade process

How to upgrade

TDR Computers can clone your existing hard drive (subject to it being in good condition with no damaged sectors) straight to a new SSD so it looks exactly the same as your existing hard drive.

Or, if you want a complete a new clean install on a SSD, giving you the opportunity to choose what programs you may want (and dumping the junk).

Either option for an all inclusive price from just £99.99 with a one year guarantee on the SSD.

Frequently Asked Questions

How "young" does my machine need to be?

We have successfully performed SSD Upgrades on machines up to and around 10 years old. However, to get the maximum benefit from an SSD upgrade, this will depend on your computer's processor or "brain". Contact us to find out aboput the suitability of your machine.

Will I lose any of my data?

This can be dependant on the condition of your existing Hard Drive. If the current drive is faulty, we may need to use a data recovery process prior to installing your new SSD.

How long does the upgrade take?

Because we are cloning or copying your data from a slower drive, this can take several hours to complete the process. Our in-house Engineers will discuss this with you and alleviate any concerns.

Can you install and SSD in to my iMac?

iMacs & MacBooks really benefit from this upgrade and so we highly recommend you consider getting this done.
